Privacy Policy

At Tool Index, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website or use the Tool Index browser extension.

1 Information We Collect

Personal Information

When you register for an account, submit a tool, or contact us, we may collect:

• Email address
• Username and display name
• Password (stored securely using industry-standard hashing)
• Profile information you choose to provide

Browser Extension

The extension stores your extension token in your browser's local storage. It sends the token to Tool Index to verify your account and authenticate requests. Verification may return your email address or username so the settings page can show which account is connected.

• When you open the extension on a regular website, its current URL is sent to Tool Index to find a matching directory listing. The extension does not continuously monitor your navigation or read your browser history database.
• When you click Capture screenshot, the extension captures the visible portion of the current tab and sends the image, source URL, and tool identifier to Tool Index for moderation. Any personal information visible in that tab may be included. Check the page before capturing. Approved screenshots can appear publicly on the tool listing.
• When you submit a review, your rating and any headline or review text you enter are sent to Tool Index and associated with your account. Reviews are subject to moderation and may be displayed publicly.
• When you click Submit this tool, the extension reads the page title and description, site name, and image or favicon metadata, then opens the Tool Index submission form with those values and the current URL prefilled. You complete the listing submission on the website.

Extension data is used to provide these requested features, authenticate your account, moderate contributions, and protect the service. We do not sell extension data or use it for personalized advertising, creditworthiness, or lending decisions. Service providers that host and operate the service may process the data for these purposes. Tool logos displayed by the extension may load from the image host associated with a listing.

You can revoke an extension token from your Tool Index dashboard. Removing the extension clears its local settings, but does not remove contributions already sent to Tool Index. To request deletion of account data or contributions, contact toolindexnet@gmail.com using the rights process below.
