Wife is a smart wallet that works out which of the cards you already carry should pay for each purchase, then explains the choice. The company describes it as an intelligence layer across your existing cards rather than a new card or a new account. It decides which card should be charged before authorization, says why, and keeps a fallback ready, so the promise is the same tap you make today with a better card behind it.

The problem it's chasing is one most rewards users recognise. The average rewards user carries more cards than they can track, with dining on one, groceries on another, a rotating 5 percent category that needs activating each quarter, and a travel card that only pays through a portal. Those rules are real money, nobody memorises them, and the moment of payment is the worst possible time to do the maths, so people tap whichever card is on top and lose the difference quietly, hundreds of times a year. Comparison sites help you pick a card once a year and issuer apps optimise for their own card. The gap Wife points at is a neutral decision made in the second before authorization.

Setting up means linking the cards you already have. Wife maps each card's reward rules, caps, activation requirements, and fees onto a single comparable model. Card numbers aren't stored. Cards are added through provisioning and wallet infrastructure partners, and Wife holds tokenized credentials and metadata only. At decision time it reads the merchant, checks each card's live eligibility, ranks the cards by what they'll actually pay you, and picks the winner with the reasoning saved. Hard constraints decide eligibility first, every choice is explainable, and a low-confidence decision never routes automatically. You can override any pick, and the company says it learns when you do. The worked example on the site is a $410 hotel in London, where the obvious 2 percent cash card loses once the foreign transaction fee lands.

What's live today is the web app, which is open for account creation, trip planning, card sets, nearby merchants, and card recommendations. Describe a trip and Wife turns your own cards into a card set for it, calls out foreign transaction fees, and, if nothing in your wallet earns well on what you're about to buy, says so and names a card that would, including its annual fee. There's a nearby-merchants view and a check-a-merchant lookup for one-off decisions. The Android and iPhone apps that would handle the tap itself are still in development, and the site is clear that mobile downloads will return when they're ready, with a mailing list for the store links. The trip planner is pitched against the habit of pasting a wallet into a chatbot and asking which card to use in Lisbon, which the site says half works and fails the same way every time because the model answers from memory and quotes a bonus category that expired. Wife works from your cards rather than a model's memory, and one press turns the answer into a card set.

It's aimed at people who juggle several rewards cards and feel the leak daily, which is the launch wedge the company names on its own site. The trust section is unusually direct. Wife is decisioning and orchestration software with no custody, no balances, and no money transmission, operating through regulated payment partners. Tokenization, encryption, least-privilege access, audit logs, and monitoring are described as day-one features with minimal PCI scope by design. Each decision answers three questions, why this card, what value it captured, and what would have happened otherwise.

Where it differs from the card-recommendation apps that already exist is the ambition to sit at the point of payment rather than in a lookup you consult beforehand. Today that ambition is only partly delivered, because the web app answers the question and the routing at the reader depends on the mobile apps and wallet partners that aren't shipped yet. The site reads partly like a pitch, complete with a go-to-market section and an unedited set of investor questions and answers, which tells you how early the company is but also that it isn't hiding the hard questions. Its why-now argument is that wallet usage is mainstream, cards are already tokenized, rewards keep getting more complex, and consumers already tap to pay, so the surface is familiar and the infrastructure is finally catching up in a way it wasn't five years ago.

There's no published pricing. Creating an account is free, no card is required to sign up or join the mobile list, and the monetization section commits to no ads, no confusing affiliate incentives, and never recommending a card because it pays Wife more.
