Nod

Nod is a macOS app that records the audio from your meetings and calls, transcribes them, and extracts the parts that matter, like decisions, action items, and commitments. It listens through your Mac's audio rather than joining the call as a bot, so nobody else in the meeting sees an extra participant show up.

The core idea is that meetings generate information you'll forget. Someone agrees to send a file, a deadline moves, a decision gets made in passing. Nod captures all of that and turns it into a searchable archive. You can ask it what was decided in a meeting last month, or who committed to what, and get answers pulled from the transcript.

It works with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack huddles, Discord calls, FaceTime, and phone calls routed through your Mac. Anything that makes audio on your computer is fair game. Because it listens locally instead of joining as a participant, it sidesteps the awkwardness of meeting bots and the permissions issues that come with them.

During a live call, Nod shows a floating panel with a running summary and suggestions. After the call, it processes the audio and adds the notes to your library. You can browse sessions, search across them, and ask questions in natural language. It supports fourteen languages, including English, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Portuguese, so multilingual teams can use it without switching tools.

Privacy is handled by keeping everything local. Audio isn't stored after processing. The database is encrypted with AES-256, and the company says it doesn't train models on your data. They're working toward SOC 2 certification, which suggests they're aiming at enterprise buyers who need compliance paperwork.

The app also connects to Claude, so you can pull your notes into that interface if you already use it for other work. There's an optional ambient context feature that reads what's on your screen to add more detail to your notes, though you can turn that off if it feels like too much.

Pricing runs from nine to twenty-nine dollars a month depending on the tier. It's not cheap for a note-taking app, but the value proposition is time savings, especially for people in back-to-back calls who need to track commitments across dozens of conversations. It runs on macOS 13 or later, on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
