OOMU

OOMU is a native macOS application that turns ordinary computer tasks into visible, reviewable AI workflows. A user describes work in familiar language, such as reading a folder, summarizing contracts, sorting email, preparing a weekly report, or drafting a document. OOMU breaks that request into steps and shows the plan before anything runs. The user can read those steps, change the parts that don't look right, and then approve the job. It is meant for people who want useful agents without having to learn command line tools, model terminology, or a long technical setup. Chats, agents, workflows, schedules, projects, connections, and run history all live in one application rather than across a collection of browser tabs. A menu bar indicator shows how much work is still running, while the app follows the Mac's light or dark appearance. The interface is therefore part of the safety model since plans, permissions, and records stay somewhere a user can revisit.

The product's main distinction is that everyday work runs on the Mac itself. Setup downloads two local models, after which local jobs can run without a network connection or an API key. Cloud models stay off until the user enables them, and a local-only project remains on the Mac even when cloud access is available elsewhere. If a task really needs a cloud provider, the user supplies the key and pays that provider directly. Its Mac integration reaches beyond a generic chat window. OOMU works with Mail, Calendar, Notes, Reminders, Contacts, Photos, Music, notifications, and existing Shortcuts through separate actions with reading and writing kept apart. Access uses the normal macOS permission controls, and a denied action points the user to the relevant System Settings panel. Deleting a file sends it to the Trash so the usual Put Back behavior remains available. A command shortcut can find chats, agents, workflows, connections, and settings, while another lightweight interaction can answer a question over the current task without a tour through browser tabs.

The tradeoff is a firm platform requirement. OOMU supports Apple Silicon Macs with an M1 chip or newer, asks for at least 8 GB of memory, and uses about 5 GB of disk for the app and downloaded models. More memory supports larger jobs. There is no Intel Mac build, Windows edition, or Linux version, and the company presents that limitation as a deliberate choice so it can rely on Apple unified memory, native permissions, EventKit, Shortcuts, and familiar file behavior. It is therefore best suited to Mac based knowledge workers rather than mixed device teams seeking one identical client everywhere.

Useful starting points include reading a collection of files into an actionable summary, drafting a recurring update from existing material, turning a remembered process into a reusable workflow, and checking quick questions from a shortcut. The one-window design keeps chats, agents, workflows, schedules, projects, connections, and run records together. This can reduce the coordination work around agents, but users still need to inspect plans and outputs, especially before allowing a workflow to write files, send communications, or interact with an Apple app. The visible plan and native permission layer make that review practical rather than automatic proof that every result is correct.

The complete Mac app is free, including business and client work. OOMU says there is no trial, card, account, sales call, per-question fee, or feature gate for local models, workflows, schedules, encrypted history, Air-Gap Mode, and the audit trail. Its paid product is OOMU Control for organizations that need centralized policy, approved model choices, visibility into what each Mac runs, security records, and managed deployment. That makes the overall offering freemium even though an individual gets the full desktop product at no charge. Cloud provider usage, when a user chooses it, is billed by that provider rather than OOMU. The company also keeps Air-Gap Mode, encrypted history, and the audit trail on the free side of the product rather than reserving those safeguards for managed customers.
