It replaces the usual like with an Upvalue, a small payment from a reader to an author, and uses the value collected by a post to influence its visibility. Posts rise because readers spend real value on them, not because an engagement system predicts what will keep someone scrolling. This makes the basic network accessible without a subscription, while active support and generation happen through small transactions. Users should still treat those payments carefully because onchain transactions can't be reversed.

Public posts live on the Bitcoin SV blockchain rather than only in Treechat's own database. The service says authors retain ownership of their content, and the public record remains available even if the application changes or disappears. Treechat also surfaces archives from earlier BSV social products, including Twetch and Hodlocker, as an example of how onchain conversations can outlive the interface that first published them. That persistence is useful for public writing, durable references, and work that a creator wants others to find later. It comes with a clear tradeoff. AI creations can also become collectible digital art stored onchain, with options to keep, trade, or sell the work. Developers have another route through treecli, a command-line tool that can read discussions, publish posts, and generate AI images, video, and music from a terminal. The site positions the CLI for both people and coding agents, which makes Treechat usable from an automated workflow as well as its visual interfaces. The terms also note that AI can be wrong, so the person publishing remains responsible for checking what goes onchain.

Treechat fits creators who want direct reader support, communities that prefer visible discussion branches, and Bitcoin SV users who already understand wallets and small onchain payments. Developers may also value the CLI when they want an agent or local workflow to interact with public threads. It has a narrower audience than a mainstream social network, and the site currently describes a community of more than 5,000 users, so the available conversation pool will depend on the subjects and people a newcomer follows. Access is freemium in practice. Accounts and posting are free, there are no ads or subscription requirements, and costs arise when someone sends an Upvalue or uses optional AI generation. That posture is straightforward, but users should account for the 15 percent platform fee on rewards and the permanent nature of public posting.
